[Video] In Tension: Workshop with MIT CAST Distinguished Visiting Artist Janet Echelman

Participants in “Building Technology: The Computational Design, Engineering, and Fabrication of Large Scale Sculptural Rope Networks” investigated the work of MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST) Distinguished Visiting Artist Janet Echelman, focusing on the fiber-based material systems and software tools that she has pioneered with her studio. Exploring and testing new opportunities for algorithmic design and engineering simulation, the participants contributed to the creation and production of large-scale tensile sculpture in the MIT Museum Studio. The four week workshop offered by the Department of Architecture at MIT during the Independent Activities Period (IAP) in January 2023 was co-taught by Caitlin Mueller, Adam Burke, Alessandro Beghini, Janet Echelman, David Feldman, and Nicole Wang.
