The Internship Program of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to experience research, development, or production in industry. For the bachelor’s degree, two ten-week work periods in an industrial, governmental, or academic organization establishment are required. Normally, these occur during the summers preceding the junior and senior years. Students register for the MIT subjects 3.930 and 3.931 Internship Program. The second of these work periods, properly reported, is accepted in lieu of the undergraduate thesis.
