A research assistant/lab manager position is available in New York City at Weill Cornell Medicine in the laboratory of Elena Piskounova, PhD, to examine the process of metastasis, specifically the adaptations that occur in cancer cells as they progress through the metastatic cascade. The Piskounova laboratory (www.piskounovalab.org) uses patient-derived xenografts and mouse models of melanoma and pancreatic cancer to study metastasis in vivo, and cancer cell lines in vitro to understand molecular adaptations that enable cancer cells to survive at distinct steps of the metastatic cascade. The lab actively employs a range of biochemical techniques including western blotting, RNA-immunoprecipitations and LC-Mass Spectrometry. The lab has active projects in condon-biased translation, tRNA modifications, metabolic adaptations to oxidative stress and the role of the immune system in metastasis.
The Lab Manager / Research Assistant will head an energetic and cutting-edge cancer research team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and participating in ongoing research projects. The ideal candidate must have an undergraduate degree (B.S./B.A. or equivalent) with prior laboratory experience. Highly motivated applicants with excellent communication skills and seeking to pursue PhD, MD or MD/PhD training are desired. A minimum two-year commitment beginning in Summer 2024 is preferred.
They will coordinate purchasing and inventory for the laboratory, ensure safety requirements are met, procedures are outlined and followed, and trainings are up to date. They will also perform experiments under the general supervision of the Principle Investigator and Research Fellows, and be able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively to execute experiments and management tasks. Located in the new Belfer Research Building at Weill Cornell Medicine, the position will be an integral part of a diverse and expanding research team. The successful applicant should have a strong interest in biomedical research and two or more years experience in a research laboratory setting. Prior experience working with laboratory rodents is desired, but not essential.
