Position Overview:
We are seeking a machine learning Intern to join our team for a summer internship. This role is ideal for students who are enthusiastic about leveraging artificial intelligence to make significant impacts in the field of environmental science. The intern will contribute to the development and enhancement of AI tools that analyze complex biological and ecological data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers including another intern with expertise in ecological modeling to develop machine learning tools that utilize eDNA and geospatial data to address ecological questions and challenges.
- Implement and test various machine learning algorithms using Python and libraries such as scikit-learn.
- Use Google Cloud’s VertexAI to deploy and manage ML models efficiently.
- Participate in the entire lifecycle of model development, including data preprocessing, model training, validation, and deployment.
- Assist in integrating machine learning solutions into eDNA Explorer’s web platform to improve user experience and data visualization.
- Conduct literature reviews and stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in machine learning, eDNA research, and geospatial analysis.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proficient in Python programming and experienced with libraries like scikit-learn.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, especially VertexAI, is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in working on machine learning model in a classroom setting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and concepts in a fast-paced environment.
- Background in biology, genetics, or environmental science is a plus but not required.
