Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of entry-level Research / Consultant Petroleum Engineers in its Technology Company located in Houston, Texas. Research / Consulting Petroleum Engineers within Chevron are part of a multi-disciplinary team(s) which vary in make-up but can include geologists, geophysicists, simulation & optimization engineers, drilling and completion engineers, facility engineers, data scientists and IT developers. Research Petroleum Engineers are responsible for creating and applying innovative technologies in the exploration and production industry. Application of these new technologies increase exploration success, improve reservoir descriptions, increase ultimate recovery, improve reliability / efficiency, and unlock reserves from unconventional reservoirs. These individuals also serve as technical consultants for the company’s operating business units by applying the latest technologies to solve problems and unlock opportunities. Specific areas include reservoir simulation & optimization research and development (R&D) or consulting, production engineering (including nodal analysis, stimulation, and artificial lift), enhanced oil recovery, rock properties, fluid properties, and unconventional reservoirs such as heavy oil and shale. These individuals often work on the largest and most complex assets in the company. In addition, there is a focus on building lower carbon capabilities in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), geothermal, and hydrogen.
Entry-level Research / Consulting Petroleum Engineers are assigned to positions and projects that contribute value to Chevron. Projects are matched with interns based on degree pursued and previous internship experience. Entry-level engineers will be provided guidance by a supervisor and a technical mentor.
For recent graduates, Chevron has a competency-based employee development program that combines technical training and mentoring with on-the-job experience. Research / Consulting Petroleum Engineers may have opportunities to work in the business units deploying latest technology and gaining business acumen. Most of one’s career working in the technology center is becoming a subject matter expert recognized within Chevron and externally within the industry.
Required Qualifications:
Students completing the last year of the requirements for their Masters or PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines with less than two years of directly related work experience.
Experience in research, technology development or consulting.
Previous experience in an integrated oil or international service company intern program.
Participation in an industry or energy company university research project.

The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. The anticipated salary range for this position is $89,000 – $136,000 annually. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their respective discipline, degree level and academic year for U.S. payroll offers.
