Position description:
Calico is seeking an intern to join the Nile Lab. The Nile Lab is interested in characterizing and dissecting the role of novel, uncharacterized E3-ligases that are expressed in tissue and cancer specific cells. As an intern you will hone your skills in protein purification, optimization of biochemical assays, and may have the opportunity to conduct tissue culture experiments. We are looking for a scientist who is an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, extremely organized, and comfortable working on complex problems in a wet lab. The successful candidate will work closely with members of the Nile Lab on dissecting the mechanisms and role of novel E3-ligases.
Responsibilities:
- Purify proteins
- Conduct biophysical assays
- Conduct biochemical assays
- Attend weekly 1:1 meetings
Position requirements:
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
- Experience working with general cell and/or biochemical lab practices (e.g. pipetting, making solutions, record keeping, etc.)
- Knowledge of basic cell biology and/or chemistry.
- Must maintain detailed lab notes.
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
- Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask
Nice to have:
- Experience in developing biochemical assays
About our Program:
Calico’s internship program is a paid 12-week program over the summer for students interested in understanding the fundamental science of aging and finding treatments for the associated and intractable diseases. Working in a collaborative environment and fully embedded in one of our labs/teams, Calico interns tackle a unique project under the mentorship of at least one of our scientists or engineers. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a demographic that is underrepresented within the technology, data science, and healthcare industries are encouraged to apply.
