Position description:
Calico is seeking an intern to join the Kenyon lab. To succeed, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, extremely organized and comfortable working on complex problems. In this position you will study age-related changes of mammalian tissue organization by microscopy. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with members of the Kenyon group, focusing on the architecture of tissue aging in connection with immunity. The objective is to test a set of aging markers, identifying new phenotypes of aging and comprehending their connection with age-related immune infiltration.
Responsibilities:
- With our help, based on pre-existing data, establish a list of aging markers and the suitable approaches to image them
- Optimize staining techniques in collaboration with our histology core
- Use our high-content microscopes to generate a large number of observations
- In collaboration with our microscopy data scientist, run the image analysis
Position requirements:
- Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Cell Biology or related field
- Experience working with microscopes
- Experience with histochemistry
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
- Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask
Nice to have:
- Experience with Python to analyze images
- Knowledge in immunity, in mammalian histology and/or in cell death biology.
- Experience with live tissue imaging
About our Program:
Calico’s internship program is a paid 12-week program over the summer for students interested in understanding the fundamental science of aging and finding treatments for the associated and intractable diseases. Working in a collaborative environment and fully embedded in one of our labs/teams, Calico interns tackle a unique project under the mentorship of at least one of our scientists or engineers. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a demographic that is underrepresented within the technology, data science, and healthcare industries are encouraged to apply.
