This application is for a 6-month student role from July – December 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024.
This role in Manufacturing Sciences will support Process Science labs on projects focused on upstream and/or downstream unit operations for manufacturing of monoclonal antibodies (mAb). This position is expected to perform laboratory experiments and associated equipment turnaround or sample analysis under the direction of a senior scientist. This position may involve interactions across functional teams (with Technical Development, Technology transfer teams, Reg-CMC, and Quality) and across different sites (North America and Europe). This role will monitor the manufacturing and quality aspects of a project, including reviewing/analyzing technical data/documents and presenting results. Key responsibilities of this position include evaluating new technologies and equipment, identifying and solving problems, and working innovatively and reasonably independently.
Position Description
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supporting the process science lab in performing cell culture bioreactor and/or purification studies related to protein therapeutics. Activities may include examining process robustness, executing satellite runs, and supporting live production campaigns.
The evaluation, development, and implementation of innovation initiatives that add value to the manufacturing process and the support of other development studies in the lab.
Example projects may include:
- Executing and refining lab scale bioprocess studies to improve understanding of processes in the GMP facility.
- Evaluating buffers for storage of chromatography resins.
- Experiments to fulfill Process Validation requirements.
Qualifications:
- Technical understanding, attention to detail, and hands-on abilities needed to plan and perform lab studies
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning about complex systems and pro-actively identifying new ways to improve them.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, willingness and initiative to seek help from team members and other coworkers
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Education
- An ongoing Bachelor’s (3rd or 4th year) or Master’s student in a relevant field (ex. Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or similar).
