Materials Science characterizes raw materials and works directly with both process development and manufacturing to understand process impact of raw material attributes and variability. The group also investigates foreign objects, particles, particulates and precipitates found, performing forensic investigation, elucidating the source and helping determine potential corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. The team is highly collaborative and interacts with raw material suppliers, Quality Control, Process Development, Tech Transfer, Process Science Labs, and Manufacturing groups.
Position Description
As a co-op, you will:
Execute raw material analytical methods and monitoring techniques to ensure the consistency of Biogen’s manufacturing platform
Development of forensic capabilities including method such as Raman microscopy, micro-X ray fluorescence, and other instrumental methods
Developing profiles of key biopharmaceutical raw material attributes
Example projects may include:
Characterize key raw materials for new programs and manufacturing modalities, aid in understanding raw material attributes, variability and process impact
Build out forensic investigational technologies and laboratory capabilities, for such items as foreign materials found in manufacturing, unknown solution precipitates and visible/sub-visible particles found in drug substance and drug product
Qualifications:
Experience with instrumental analysis techniques, including for example HPLC and mass spectrometry
Experience with analytical chemistry and understanding of analytical method fundamentals
Background in chemistry
