Interested in learning more about GIS and the planning profession?
Strafford Regional Planning Commission seeks a GIS intern to assist our GIS team on a variety of transportation, land use, economic development, environment, and local and regional planning projects. The GIS intern will assist with data collection, data analysis, report writing, cartography, map production, and basic spatial analysis. Throughout the duration of the position, the GIS intern will also have the opportunity to network with existing staff in all SRPC program areas including economic development, housing, land use, and environmental planning.
The GIS Intern Will:
- Assist the Senior GIS Planner and the Data Team on a variety of activities.
- Update the regional Land Use data layer for the entire region.
- Collect data that will aid in updating the regional Community Anchor Institutions data layer.
- Assist in the development of mapping products for Master Plans, Tax Map updates, Natural Resource Inventories, etc.
- Aid in the server migration of GIS files.
- Work with staff from all 18 SRPC municipalities to collect pertinent GIS data.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Experience using ArcMap or ArcPro
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, basic cartography, and GIS data (shapefiles, geodatabases, etc.)
- Interest in regional, transportation, infrastructure, and/or urban planning
- Team oriented, responsible, and dependable.
- Inquisitive and eager to learn.
Special requirements for this position include:
- Will require reliable transportation to the Rochester, NH office.
- This position will be part-time, ideally 8-20 hours per week. Schedule can be flexible, and we will work with the chosen candidate to set a schedule that works for everyone.
- The position is open until filled. This position’s end date will be June 30th, with the potential for extension.
The rate of pay is $17-19 per hour dependent on undergrad or grad student status.
