What does MIT Career Advising & Professional Development (MIT CAPD) offer? with Dr. Deborah Liverman, Executive Director
DEBORAH LIVERMAN: Welcome. I am Deborah Liverman, the Executive Director of MIT’s Career Advising and Professional Development.
Our office is MIT’s hub to explore and prepare for jobs, internships, fellowships, and medical or graduate school. We help MIT students, postdocs, and recent alums, regardless of their degree level or professional interest.
In Career Advising, we empower students and postdocs to think big picture about their career interests and goals, and then support them through every part of the journey, from researching careers, to creating resumes and CVs, interviewing for opportunities, evaluating and negotiating job offers and salaries.
Our Distinguished Fellowships advising staff supports MIT rising seniors, grad students, and alums to identify and explore competitive fellowships, and they work one on one with individuals to navigate eligibility, applications, interviews, and timelines.
Prehealth Advising helps students determine if a health career is the right path for them, and then works by their sides to evaluate different schools, complete the applications, and get ready for interviews. In career advising and professional development, students and postdocs need a skillset that empowers them to apply their MIT experience to various career opportunities. This is where professional development steps in.
Our Grad Professional Development team offers workshops and individual support in career advancement, communication, interpersonal skills, leadership and mentoring, personal development, social responsibility, and teaching.
