Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is recruiting to fill two Senior or Advanced level Civil Engineer Transportation positions located in the Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD), Bureau of Project Development. These positions could be located in DTSD offices in Madison or Waukesha .

The Roadway Design Standards Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation- Senior/Advanced) position is responsible for the creation, development and maintenance of the Department’s standard criteria, policies, guidance and procedures for highway design. Development and maintenance of the Department’s standard detail drawings and other special design details for use in contract plans. In addition, the position provides evaluations, technical advice, training and information to others about design standards and highway engineering problems. This position is responsible for writing technical reports and correspondence, responding to questionnaires and making technical presentations at meetings and conferences. Participate on technical committees as a staff expert on highway design criteria, geometric design, roadside safety design, and highway capacity.
The Roadway Drainage Design Standards Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation- Senior/Advanced) position is responsible for the development and maintenance of Departmental guidance, standards, policies and procedures as they relate to drainage, erosion control and storm water quality. It serves on technical committees as the staff specialist on highway design criteria, hydraulic design, erosion control design, and storm water quality management. In addition, the position is responsible for providing technical guidance and support to region and statewide bureau staff and is responsible for providing engineering technical training to WisDOT staff.
Positions will be hired at the Senior or Advanced level depending on qualifications.
The Senior level position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $79,268 – $97,448 depending upon qualifications and experience.
The Advanced level position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $88,296 – $106,808 depending upon qualifications and experience.
A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
A minimally qualified applicant at the SENIOR level will have the following:
· 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or a master’s or PhD) or a related engineering field from an ABET accredited University, EIT Credential, or Professional Engineer (PE) credential (if non-Wisconsin PE, a Wisconsin PE must be obtained within 3 months of hire).
· At least 4 years of professional engineering experience in design, construction or maintenance of transportation projects
Additionally, a qualified candidate at the ADVANCED level will have:
· A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.
· At least 8 years of professional engineering experience in design, construction or maintenance of transportation projects
