TFMoran Inc. is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill a Structural Designer Intern position. The Designer will work under Structural Project Managers and Engineers. Projects include small and large residential and commercial/retail buildings, as well as structural renovations.
Candidates must be enrolled in a college or university ABET accredited engineering program and working towards a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Relevant course studies preferred include the design of steel, concrete, timber and masonry. Experience using Microsoft Office applications and Revit is required. Experience with AutoCAD is a plus. Experience with RISA 3D, Ram Structural System and other analysis software is preferred. FE is preferred. Ideal candidate must have good organizational and communication skills.
Candidates will be expected to use Revit Structure and Autocad to model, draft, and develop all building construction documents. Repetitive use of both modeling programs will provide the candidate with marketable building modeling and detailing proficiencies for new construction and renovation construction respective to the northeast region of the country.
Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks, and basic structural calculations for building projects consisting of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry materials. Candidates will use and gain proficiency on the appropriate use of Building Codes while performing analysis on building structural elements of various materials. Candidates can expect to perform repetitive hand calculations to apply textbook knowledge to gain experience with design of various structural elements and materials. Candidates will also learn and gain proficiency with various structural engineering software to supplement and verify hand calculations as well as growth to complete more complex structural analysis.
Candidates will support project engineers with construction administrative tasks in the office and in the field. Perform review and comparison of structural submittals and proposed material substitutions to construction documents. Perform site visits and gain exposure to the project site to observe the progress of the construction and observations to the project engineer relative to the compliance of the construction compared to the construction documents. Candidate should expect to utilize and build on communication skills while speaking with other construction professionals to convey project structural requirements and compliance.
Candidates will gain experience working in a professional engineering office and be exposed to and communicate with several other professional building consultants such as civil engineers, architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, fire protection engineers, geotechnical engineers, contractors, developers, and owners.
