The role of a Jr. Engineer is to work as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The JE will work under close supervision of a Senior Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering highway features for various transportation projects. A JE will perform a variety of tasks, which may also include assisting with the highway plans and designs of bridge projects.
The position will primarily work in an office setting, but may require some fieldwork.
The JE’s primary duties in this position rely upon knowledge of the general concepts and application of basic engineering principles, fundamental theories, engineering techniques and procedures in geometric roadway design, drainage and grading design, cost estimating, and water and sewer design.
The JE’s responsibilities include assisting the team in preparing drawings and reports for highway and bridge projects including: conducting data collection, performing basic calculations, design, and engineering analysis; creating engineering drawings; developing and checking specifications; creating and reviewing cost analysis and bidding documents; making site reviews and other engineering related activities.
