The Ophthalmology department at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is seeking an experienced, talented, motivated scientist to join the gene therapy unit in our mission to develop transformative AAV-based gene therapies to treat patients with blinding diseases.
The successful candidate will have strong technical skills in molecular biology, cell culture and cell-based assays, a proven track record of productive, independent work, and a commitment to working toward a common goal. The candidate will work collaboratively with groups in the Ophthalmology Disease Area and across divisions at NIBR. This individual will report findings effectively by oral and written presentation. Applicants should possess excellent record keeping and organizational skills. Excellent communication and teamwork are critical to success in this position.

What you will bring to the role;
•BS/MS with 3-4+ years of industry laboratory experience
•Proficient execution of standard molecular, and cell biology techniques including cloning, PCR, DNA sequencing, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, transfection, ELISA, and/or ddPCR.
•Assess potency of AAV-mediated transduction in-vitro or ex-vivo via immuohistochemistry, RNA expression, Western blotting, or functional readout.
•Demonstrated expertise in cell-based assays and/or assay development
•Experience in iPS cell line differentiation and/or stable cell line generation
•Work independently to design and interpret experiments and plan next steps
•Clearly present results and data to teams
•Work in compliance with the Novartis Code of Conduct and in accordance with Novartis guidelines on health and safety and data recording
Additional desirable qualifications:
•Training in ophthalmology and genetics
•AAV or lentiviral production, purification and characterization
•Familiarity with ex vivo experimentations such as tissue microdissection, sectioning, IHC staining or explant cultures
