The Cohn lab, within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, is recruiting a talented postdoctoral fellow with expertise in HIV-biology and human immunology. The Cohn lab focuses on understanding the interaction between HIV and the human immune system. Our studies utilize human immunology, virology, and state-of-the-art technologies to study clinical samples from HIV-infected people. We focus our research on understanding the molecular, immunological and virologic forces that drive persistence of HIV-infected cells to inform cure strategies and identify novel drug targets.
The candidate will lead a project with the following goals:
- Investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating clonal expansion of HIV-infected human CD4+ T cells to allow their lifelong persistence in vivo
- Characterize the mechanisms which trigger latently infected CD4+ T cells to produce viremia after treatment interruption
- A PhD in the field of immunology, virology, cell biology, or related field
- A strong publication record and eligibility and desire to apply for future fellowships is important
- The candidate must be experienced in essential techniques used to characterize human immune cells and must be comfortable working with BSL2+ pathogens from valuable and rare clinical samples. A candidate with experience in multi color flow cytometry, genomics and next generation sequencing methods is desired
- A successful candidate will show curiosity and an initiative to learn new techniques, exceptional organizational and communication skills, be creative and innovative in their experimental design, and thrive working both independently while in a highly collaborative environment
