Job Description – Technical Writer
Dielectric Sciences, Inc. (DSI), a HEICO company, designs and manufactures cable assemblies, connectors, insulation systems, and accessories for high voltage applications in the medical, industrial, and military sectors. Currently in its 50th year of operation, DSI has a reputation for deep expertise in designing high voltage connectivity systems that meet the demanding needs of their customers. DSI is looking to add a Technical Writer with documentation expertise and mechanical aptitude to its manufacturing team.
The Technical Writer’s primary responsibility is to manage DSI’s library of work instructions. This includes working with design engineers and manufacturing staff to create instructions for new assemblies, updating existing instructions to reflect engineering changes and process updates, and managing how work instructions are used and organized.
The Technical Writer uses engineering drawings and bills of materials to generate assembly process instructions, take/edit photos to accompany instructions, and create schematics to illustrate processes. The Technical Writer works with manufacturing staff to ensure work instructions are accurate and consistent with existing processes. The technical writer will also assist with continuous improvement projects that involve work instructions and process documentation.
Responsibilities may also include generating training materials, creating technical marketing content and materials, such as product data sheets, product presentations, trade show materials, and creating and managing website content. Other responsibilities may be added based on the skills of the candidate.
Candidates for this position must have at least 1-3 years of technical writing experience, proficiency with Adobe InDesign and image editing software (Adobe Acrobat, GIMP, or similar), and basic mechanical aptitude to describe and illustrate work processes.
Desired Skills and Experience
The optimal candidate will have obtained an understanding of mechanical systems through a degree program, work experience in a manufacturing environment, or a combination of the two. Experience shooting and editing video clips for training and/or documentation is desired. Experience with WordPress for website management is also desired.
