The Toxics Reduction & Healthy Ecosystems Program develops programs and policies to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in the commercial, residential and municipal sectors. The municipal toxics reduction team works with San Francisco City departments to implement the City’s pioneering environmentally preferable purchasing and less-toxic pest management, through stakeholder engagement, policy, training, outreach and technical support. Initiatives we undertake in San Francisco’s purchasing and pest management often serve as springboards for policies and programs in our commercial and residential work, and are replicated by jurisdictions far beyond San Francisco.
The Senior Municipal Toxics Reduction Coordinator performs and supervises duties related to toxics reduction and pollution prevention programs for San Francisco’s municipal departments. As the Senior Municipal Toxics Reduction Coordinator, you will supervise a team of direct reports, and be responsible for supervision. project management and staff development. This position is responsible for strategic direction for the municipal toxics reduction programs, including the Green Purchasing and Integrated Pest Management Programs, developing new program areas, researching safer alternatives to problem products used in the municipal sector, and convening cross-departmental stakeholder groups. This is a senior-level coordinator position supervising two Assistant Coordinators.

Education – Possession of a baccalaureate degree in environmental sciences, public administration, business administration, or a field related to toxics reduction (including but not limited to chemistry, toxicology, chemical or environmental engineering, or integrated pest management) from an accredited college or university; and
Experience – Four (4) years of professional experience performing duties similar to those described in this class, within the specialty area of toxics reduction programs (such as integrated pest management, environmentally-preferable purchasing, or chemical hazard assessment and alternatives assessment)
