The State Water Resources Control Board’s (State Water Board) Division of Water Quality, Sustainable Water Plans and Policies Section has an opening for a permanent full-time Environmental Scientist to join a dynamic team environment in the Recycled Water and Desalination Unit. We are seeking a talented scientist with strong critical thinking skills to assist the team in protecting water quality consistent with the State Water Board’s direction and mission.
Typical duties include: Coordinating with stakeholders, drafting and reviewing technical documents, and utilizing technical scientific knowledge and skills to implement the Recycled Water Policy. Managing the Recycled Water Research Program and assisting the Recycled Water and Desalination team in developing and implementing plans, policies, and guidelines related to recycled water, seawater desalination, and salt and nutrient management. Reviewing and evaluating technical documents and scientific literature to provide summaries of findings and recommendations in technically accurate correspondence, briefing documents, and presentations. Evaluating statewide permitting processes and developing recommendations to address short and long-term program challenges. Coordinating with other organizational units at the State and Regional Water Boards, other state and federal agencies, and stakeholders, including scheduling and facilitating meetings, compiling feedback, and presenting recommendations. Occasional travel is required for this position.
The position is located at 1001 I Street, 15th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations, other public transportation, restaurants and more. However, due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, full-time telework is expected until it is deemed safe to return to the office.
