The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism has three major divisions: Arkansas State Parks, Arkansas Heritage and Arkansas Tourism. Arkansas State Parks manages 52 state parks and promotes Arkansas as a tourist destination for people around the country. Arkansas Heritage preserves and promotes Arkansas’s natural and cultural history and heritage through four historic museums and four cultural preservation agencies. Arkansas Tourism improves the state’s economy by generating travel and enhancing the image of the state.

Salary Range: $36,155.00 – $52,425.00
The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT) Consultant is responsible for promoting tourism development and enterprise in Arkansas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Promotes the state’s tourism industry by establishing and maintaining relationships with communities, organizations, and government agencies. Serves as consultant to communities and counties on issues pertaining to festival development, group and international travel, and tourism development programs. Assists in seeking, identifying, processing, and fulfilling requests and leads to tourism suppliers. Attends tradeshows, domestic and international marketplaces, and regional/national meetings as official department representative. Attends informational sessions to maintain knowledge of current and future issues that relate to group and international tourism efforts. Assists with the development and updating of meeting planner directories and websites. Assists in planning and hosting familiarization tours and statewide conferences. Assists in the administration of statewide grant programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Occasional in and out-of-state travel is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Arkansas tourism products. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of marketing. Knowledge of the travel and tourism industry. Ability to write promotional materials. Ability to coordinate meetings and lead workshops. Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in tourism, public relations, marketing, general business, or a related field; plus two years of experience in the travel or tourism industry or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. ADPHT Consultant/Tourism Development & Grant Coordinator

This position is responsible for developing tourism across the state by gathering and processing information on tourism opportunities, administering grant programs, maintaining effective public relations through organizing and attending events, and consulting with tourist regions and tourism organizations. Exceptional written and verbal communication essential for working with nonprofits, government organizations, and municipalities to assist communities with tourism development and with marketing, evaluation, and grant programs. Strong public speaking skills necessary for presenting at seminars, workshops, conferences, and meetings. In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office required for developing presentations, producing written communications, and recordkeeping. Position also assists with the Arkansas Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Frequent statewide travel and occasional out-of-state travel.
