The Space Systems Command, Los Angeles AFB, CA. (United States Space Force) is currently searching for PCIP applicants in the field of Program Management. This is a summer internship program beginning in May and ending in September:
About this Job:
SSC is the birthplace of U.S. Air Force’s ballistic missile and military space program and it is the center of acquisition excellence to pioneer, develop, integrate, deliver, and sustain innovative and resilient capabilities to protect our national interests in space. Its portfolio includes the Global Positioning System, wideband global satellite communications, weather system follow-on, space launch and range systems, satellite control networks, space based infrared systems and space domain awareness capabilities. We are responsible for the launch, developmental testing, on-orbit checkout, and sustainment and maintenance of USSF space systems, as well as oversight of USSF science and technology activities.
Duties will include:
1.) Assessing progress in assigned projects/programs including cost estimates, schedules, and performance. All of these are linked to supportable baseline requirements necessitating the application of new and innovative methods and procedures.
2.) Providing input in source selection(s) and contractor monitoring of acquisition phases and development through production and deployment.
3.) Planning, organizing and coordinating activities of functional specialists including contracting, engineering, manufacturing, program control, configuration/data management, test, and logistics. This includes the continual study, review and evaluation of program progress.
4.) Formalizing system requirements into appropriate specifications.
5.) Reviewing and directing the progress of contractors in meeting program objectives. Take appropriate actions to approve terms and conditions set forth in negotiations, contracting plans and budgets, subcontract participation, and addition or discontinuance of work by contractor. 6.) Preparing and presenting staff studies and briefings for presentations.
You’ll be on a team responsible for the most advanced space systems in the world. SSC uses the program described below to bring on college interns for summer work.
Premier College Internship Program (PCIP) is designed to attract individuals currently enrolled full time in college who are seeking a dynamic career with the Air Force Civilian Service. This objective is accomplished by recruiting and selecting high-caliber candidates and training them to become competent, effective, and productive employees focusing on STEM, Cyber and mission critical career fields. The paid 12- week internship at either a GS-04 or GS-05 level will occur during the summer of their junior year (before heading into Senior Year) for undergraduate participants. Upon graduation and program requirement completion, a Premier College Intern may be converted to Palace Acquire developmental positions without further competition.
Qualifications & Requirements
• A U.S. citizen
• A full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Pursuing a degree
• Be in your junior year of study, anticipating completing your degree in 2023 (applicants graduating in December 2022 may also be considered)
• In good academic standing with a GPA no less than 2.95
• Be at least 16 years of age
• Be a graduate student who is currently enrolled in a full-time graduate program and who can provide documentation that you will have completed a minimum of 15 semester hours prior to starting the summer internship
