Business Unit Introduction:
Rakuten is seeking a Sustainability and Social Impact intern to join the ESG team. This team drives the strategic approach to integrate environmental and social impact within Rakuten International’s business operations and value proposition.
SUMMARY:
The Sustainability and Social Impact Intern will play a key role in the development of Rakuten International’s Sustainability and Social Impact strategic approach and initiatives. In this role you will work alongside the Director of Sustainability and Social Impact and collaborating with a diverse range of team members on projects that are of strategic importance to the company. Your efforts will directly impact the awareness, education, and implementation of environmental sustainability and ESG initiatives across Rakuten International’s seven businesses and 4000 employees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct and organize research on industry trends, standards, and benchmarks and help build methods to incorporate research into projects and programs. Develop educational materials and reports to expand Environmental Sustainability awareness and engagement amongst employees and executives. Identify, implement and support processes to collect, organize, and report data for Environmental Sustainability and Social Impact. Support and influence opportunities for the implementation of Environmental Sustainability and Community Engagement initiatives.

- Interest in corporate social responsibility, ESG and environmental sustainability
- Highly detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel)
- Ability to work independently with demonstrable work output for stretches of time

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the hourly rate for this role will be between $20 – $30 per hour. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location.
