Job Description
Overview:
The City of Boston Office of Youth Employment & Opportunity is seeking a Strategic Engagement Intern Coordinator to assist with the Department’s engagement and outreach operations. This position is for high-energy and self-motivated individuals with an interest in community outreach and engagement, youth services, and youth programming. Under the direction of the Sr Manager of Engagement & Outreach, the Strategic Engagement Intern Coordinator will support the day-to-day functions of all Department outreach and engagement operations.
Responsibilities:
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Create recruitment efforts for all Department programs.
- Create and conduct presentations or trainings for community partners on our department programs.
- Represent the department at relevant events, community forums, community meetings, media events and collaborative community-based projects.
- Research and update databases for youth resources and outreach databases.
- Conduct community outreach at schools, community events, youth-serving agencies, and city-wide.
- Manage phone calls and correspondence from constituents about youth services.
- Conduct research on community needs, trends, and issues to identify potential outreach projects.
- Support in establishing relationships with local businesses, media outlets, and city agencies to promote awareness of the department’s mission and objectives.
- Recording data about community needs, participation rates, and outcomes of events and programs.
- Attend neighborhood meetings to identify potential outreach projects.
Skills & Knowledge Desired – Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- Exercise communication and interpersonal abilities, as well as organizational skills.
- MA Driver’s License preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing and verbal skills required.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of the team.
- Bilingual and/or bi-cultural persons are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience interacting with young people of different cultures and backgrounds is preferred.
- Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and work on multiple projects.
- Familiar with Boston youth service providers preferred.
- Excellent writing, editing, and word processing skills preferred.
- Knowledge of youth engagement strategies.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Essential functions are performed in both office and community-based settings.
- This position requires significant travel to attend meetings and conduct outreach and a willingness to work irregular (some evenings) hours required.
- This position will involve conducting visits to partner organizations off-site, and will involve walking, being outside, and moving boxes and materials as needed.
Compensation
- $21.00 hourly
Terms
- Seasonal part time opportunity
- Start Date: December 2022
- Hours: Up to 30 hours per week
- Some weekends may be required
- This seasonal part-time position does not provide insurance benefits
- Boston residency required
