3rd annual institute-wide Career Exploration Series reaches 1,800+

For the third year, CAPD coordinated an institute-wide Career Exploration Series during the fall and IAP. The series is a collaboration between DLCIs, employers, graduate/professional school representatives, and alumni to help all students learn about different options available to them after MIT.

The series consisted of 49 events (39 during fall, 10 during IAP) with 1,818 attendees. Several DLCIs organized events in the series including the Math department, UPOP, ISO, the Sloan Career Development office, CSAIL, NEET, GEL, the Mech E department and Mech E Alliance, the PKG Center, and the Office of Experiential Learning. In addition to these events, CAPD’s Employer Relations team organized 434 coffee chats for individual students and employers with 29 companies. Interested in reading more about the series? A detailed recap of the series can be found in this post.

When asked what they took away from the events, some students said:

“I had a great time speaking to people & learning about the fluid nature of careers.” – First-year undergraduate student

“Graduate school is intense but it might be the right fit for me” – Sophomore

“Inspiration with pursuing a career in biotech, including considerations & potential advantages with this career path…” – PhD Student

The series begins again in September 2024 with the goal of providing students with opportunities to explore various career and graduate/professional school paths by connecting them with industry leaders, alumni, graduate/professional school representatives, and DLCIs across MIT. Contact Tianna Ransom (transom@mit.edu), the Assistant Director of Career Exploration if you’d like to discuss ways to get involved. Also, share the open Career Exploration Leader positions with your students who would be a fit for organizing career exploration events for their peers!
