IAP & Summer 2022 Social Impact Internships

Looking for a way to make an impact this IAP or Summer? Apply for a paid Social Impact Internship through the PKG Center! They are adding new internships every day. You’re eligible to apply if you’re a currently enrolled undergraduate with US work authorization. We encourage you to apply ASAP, as employers are reviewing applications on a rolling basis. How to Find a Social Impact Internship

The PKG Center advertises all of their Social Impact Internships on MIT Handshake. The internships are also listed on the new ELx platform, which provides links to apply on MIT Handshake. To search for Social Impact Employment positions on Handshake, use the filter feature:

1. Scroll down to the “Labeled by Your School” field
2. Select “PKG funding eligible” to find eligible funded social impact internship (federal work study-eligible positions will be labeled with a “federal work study eligible” tag)
3. Apply directly on Handshake

Equitable Entrepreneurship Intern Majira Project (IAP)
Tech for Good Summer Intern Majira Project (Summer)
Majira seeks a group of interns who want to work directly with early stage start-ups and small businesses by leveraging tech for social good, building sustainable networks for underserved communities, and assisting companies with the implementation and execution of strategies developed by coaches and consulting teams during the formal program.

Digital Art Intern Bennett College (IAP)
The Digital Art Intern will design and create a prototype interactive digital art piece/ installation that conveys that Bennett College, a historically Black institution, is a campus that is future-focused and that cares about the health and wellbeing of students, faculty and staff.

Climate Change & Environment

Climate + Heat Health Task Force Intern Miami-Dade County (IAP)
Extreme city heat disproportionately impacts low-income communities of color. With the number of oppressive heat days increasing and city reliance on air conditioning, there is growing potential for heat-related emergencies. Work with the world’s first Heat Officer to conduct research about the risks and likelihood of a heat-related emergency in Miami-Dade County for the cutting edge Climate and Heat Health Task Force.

Sustainability and Innovation Intern World Wildlife Foundation (Summer)
Interested in environmental sustainability and the social impact of food and agriculture? Join WWF’s Markets Institute this summer to work on projects that align with your skills, interests and goals that could include creating tools for measuring ecosystem services or environmental impact, feasibility analyses, and more.

Clean Energy Research Intern  Northwest RiverPartners (IAP) (Summer)
Northwest RiverPartners leads the charge for the Northwest to achieve its clean energy potential using hydroelectricity as the cornerstone. Use your research and data analysis skills to help them compare carbon lifecycles for different forms of electric generation, and analyze the economic impacts.

Climate Action Plan InternBennett College (IAP)
Interested in how an institution can take a deep dive into creating a climate action plan? Join Bennett College, a historically Black liberal arts college, as they continue to fine tune their climate action plan by assisting with research, data collection and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Tech, Data & Research

Data Visualization Intern Bennett College (IAP)
Join Bennett College as they look to reinvent and reimagine the roles of the institution and HBCUs broadly in the preparation of women of color who aspire to leadership in social justice, civil rights and social mobility. The Data Visualization intern will assist with cleaning, analyzing, and presenting data to institutional leadership to improve decision making and planning for the college.

Analytics and Transparency InternExecutive Office of Administration and Finance (Summer)
The Analytics and Transparency Intern will focus on developing new content and improving existing content on the Federal Funds Office (FFO) transparency website, including developing interactive data visualization tools that make federal funding data more accessible and meaningful to the public, researching transparency efforts, and developing new web content that helps assess the impact of federal funds on Massachusetts residents.

Health & Medicine

Public Health Data + Research InternBennett College (IAP)
Interested in how data and research can inform policies related to public health? Work with Bennett College as they confront issues related to public health on campus and the greater community, including COVID-19. The intern will play a key role in the development and execution of special projects for the College related to public health.

Healthcare Reform/ACO Intern MassHealth (Summer) 
MassHealth’s Health Plan Administration and Oversight (HPAO) seeks an intern to take a deep dive into reviewing data to inform policy and support targeted process improvement efforts within MassHealth and/or health plan operations. HPAO plays a central role in the administration of Medicaid benefits to over a million Massachusetts residents. This internship offers a unique, insider’s view of health care and access in Massachusetts, as well as insight into MassHealth’s managed care structure and overall operations.
