Peer Career Advisors (PCA) play a significant role at CAPD by assisting fellow MIT students during individual career appointments and open office hours. They review and provide feedback on peers’ professional documents, and offer guidance on additional career topics. PCAs also work with CAPD staff to develop and deliver career programs and resources for MIT students.
- Assist your peers during scheduled 1-1 appointments, and open office hours
- Review and provide feedback on resumes, CVs, and cover letters
- Offer guidance on career topics such as internship and job search strategies, interviewing and networking, UROPs, applying to graduate school, and more
- Create and deliver a career related workshop, program, or resource for MIT students
- Assist with CAPD projects and events
- Participate in ongoing PCA group training to gain knowledge and build skills in advising and career development
As a PCA, you will have the opportunity to:
- develop communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills that will be helpful no matter what you do after MIT
- gain knowledge and skills that will support your own career exploration and preparation
- have a positive impact on your peers while supporting them in reaching their professional goals
- earn money ($15/hour)
A commitment of two semesters is required. Peer Career Advisors work approximately 5 hours per week for 15 weeks during both the fall and spring semesters.
Additionally,
- you should be a Junior, Senior, Master’s, or PhD student
- you should be graduating no sooner than May 2023
- you should be in good conduct and academic standing
Nope, we will teach you all you need to know! You do need a desire to learn, and the ability to demonstrate the skills listed below.
